The University of Uyo was founded in 1991 by the Federal Government of Nigeria. At the time, there existed in Uyo the University of Cross River State which was established in 1983 by the then Cross River State Government.
In 1987 Akwa Ibom State with headquarters at Uyo was created out of the Cross River State and from that time up to the time of Federal Government take-over in 1991, the University was jointly owned by Akwa Ibom and Cross River State Governments.
When first proposed by the President, and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the University was to be a Federal University of Technology (FUT) and the Campus of the University of Cross River State at Uyo was to be the nucleus of the proposed University.

Following representations and series of implementation strategy meetings, it was finally resolved by a letter dated 24th September 1991 that "the Federal Government has decided that University of Cross Rivers State should be converted into a Conventional University instead of a FUT". Academic activities commenced in 1991/92 session.
What is today called the University of Uyo has a humble but unique historical metamorphosis. The campus where the University of Uyo is situated started in the 1930's as a practising school and became a Teacher Training College in the 1940's. It was upgraded to Advanced Teachers' Training College in the 1960's.
In 1975, it became a College of Education and was converted to the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) in 1983.

In 1991, the erstwhile University of Cross River State assumed a new status and nomenclature called the University of Uyo, a Federal University. It is a citadel of learning, research and community development.
The University is located in the heart of Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Uyo is accessible by road and there are two International Airport within 100km radius - the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar, Cross River State and the Ibom International Airport in Uyo,Akwa Ibom State.
The University runs a multi-campus system namely: the Main Campus, the Town Campus and Annex Campus, the College of Health Sciences Campus and the Ime Umanah Campus.
Though a third generation University in Nigeria, the University of Uyo is competing favourably with most first generation Universities in Nigeria and has recorded various strides.

Hence, what is today known as Ebonyi State University started with a resolution of the then Military Administration of Anambra State, which was later upheld under Chief Jim Nwobodo's civilian administration. On July 30,1980, the then Anambra State Government established the Anambra State-University of Science and Technology, ASUTECH by law no 7 of 1980, thereby establishing the first University of Science and Technology in Nigeria. The ASUTECH Edict no. 20 of 1985, put in place a four-campus structure with the faculties of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary medicine located in Abakaliki. Lectures started in the Abakaliki campus Faculty of Agriculture in November, 1987 with 55 students and 15 academic staff including students of the department of Horticulture and Plant Protection transferred from Awka campus of ASUTECH. The Faculty graduated the first batch of students in 1991/92 academic session.
In 1987, a pre-science school was established at the Abakaliki campus of ASUTECH. On August 27, 1991, Enugu State was created out of the old Anambra State so that ASUTECH campuses in Enugu and Abakaliki were inherited by Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT via Enugu State Government Edict no. 33 of 1991 and amended in 1995 with the Abakaliki campus remaining as the new ESUT Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. The College of Medicine was added a year later in 1992.
At the creation of Ebonyi State in 1996, the Abakaliki campus of the then ESUT, was upgraded to Ebonyi State University College by Edict no. 5 of Ebonyi State, 1998 still affiliated to ESUT with Prof. Fidelis Ogah, former ESUT Deputy Vice-Chancellor as the first Rector. In 1997, the Faculty of Applied and Natural Sciences with 8 departments was added to the fledging University and later in 1998 when the ESUT Pre-Science Programme was relocated to Nsukka, the EBSUC Pre-Degree School commenced lectures in both Science and Arts in replacement of the former.
The major landmark that launched the institution/college to her present status came in 1999 when His Excellency, Dr. Sam Ominyi Egwu, 1st Executive Governor of Ebonyi State announced the upgrading of the University College to a full-fledged multi-disciplinary University. The establishing law (Ebonyi State University law No 7,1999) received executive assents of His Excellency in January 14, 2000 with Prof. Fidelis Ogah as the first Vice-Chancellor. Resulting from the autonomous status, 4 additional faculties were created viz: the Faculties of Arts with six departments; Education comprising six departments and Management and Social Sciences having nine departments. In the year 2000, the Faculty of Law, School of Postgraduate Studies and Work and Study Programme (WASP), a week-end programme mapped out for workers who desire university education while retaining their jobs were established. In 2002, a new Faculty of Health Sciences and Technology was established. It took off in 2002/2003 academic year with Departments of Nursing Sciences and that of Medical Laboratory Sciences.
In December, 2008, the 3rd Governing Council was inaugurated by His Excellency Chief Martin N. Elechl, the 2ndExecutive Governor of Ebonyi State and Visitor to EBSU, with His Excellency Dr Emmanuel Oko Isu (now late) as chairman. Prof-Francis Igboji Idike took over from Prof Fidelis Ogah as the new Vice Chancellor of the university in January,2009.

MAPOLY Merit Admission List is Out for 2015/2016 Session
Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Admission list i.e merit/1st batch admission list for the 2015/2016 academic session is now out.
The development of science and technology constitutes a key part of the process of modernization. The more this development occurs locally, the better for the society concerned. In realization of this, various Governments and even corporate bodies have continued to make significant investments in the development of indigenous capacities in science and technology.

The establishment of Moshood Abiola (formerly Ogun State) Polytechnic was necessitated by the Federal Government white paper on National Policy on Education, which declared that: technical education forms the basis of technological development and as such, a greater proportion of educational expenditure would continually be devoted to technical education by government, both at the Federal and State levels.
Besides, the Ogun State Government believes that the development of technical manpower is one of the reasonable investments that a nation can embark upon in a programme of nation and society transformation. Thus, the Ogun State Polytechnic was established under the provisions of section 3 of the law cited as the Ogun State Polytechnic Law No. 8 of 12 June, 1980 and reviewed as the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Edict, 1999.
However, the first set of 220 students was admitted into the institution in January, 1979 with staff compliment of 25 academic and 5 senior administrative officers. As at 2004/2005 session, students’ population had risen to 18,878 with about 520 academic and non-academic staff compliment.
The Polytechnic commenced operation on two temporary campuses, namely: Oke-Egunya and Onikolobo. Movement of all departments from the temporary campuses to the permanent site at Ojere started in April 1985 and was completed in March, 1988.
The Ojere campus is situated in the South-Eastern part of Abeokuta, off old Owode road and some 4km from Ibara, in the capital of Ogun State of Nigeria. The site which covers about 960 hectares of land is located on an undulating topography with some marked relief features and series of valleys which provide good scenery. It is a well drained site bounded in the south by River Ogun. Thus, the area is endowed with rich natural beauty and history.
Arguably, the Polytechnic has a pride of place as one of the frontline tertiary institutions in the country today. This rating is not only in the area of academic attainments, but in the fields of research and practical contributions towards the technological development of Nigeria. Indeed, the institution has grown in leaps and bounds.

MOSHOOD ABIOLA POLYTECHNIC, ABEOKUTA (FORMERLY OGUN STATE POLYTECHNIC) BRIEF HISTORY
The development of science and technology constitutes a key part of the process of modernization. The more this development occurs locally, the better for the society concerned. In realization of this, various Governments and even corporate bodies have continued to make significant investments in the development of indigenous capacities in science and technology.
